Rutshelle Guillaume has emerged victorious in the highly competitive Best Haitian Entertainer category at the 43rd International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA). After weeks of public voting that highlighted established names from the Haitian music scene and its vibrant diaspora, the acclaimed singer claimed the prestigious Jean B.P. DuSable Award.
Organizers announced the winners on May 28 following the main ceremony held on May 17, 2026, at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center in Florida. Guillaume stood out among a strong field of nominees that included Anie Alerte, Joé Dwèt Filé, Kenny Haiti, and Roody Roodboy. This mix of artists underscored both the dynamism of talent based in Haiti and the growing influence of Haitian voices across the Caribbean and francophone music landscapes.
Nominations for the awards were revealed in April, with voting conducted openly through the official IRAWMA platform, allowing fans worldwide to participate in celebrating excellence in reggae, world music, and related genres.
Founded more than four decades ago by Ephraim Martin, the IRAWMA honors artists in reggae, dancehall, Afro music, Caribbean sounds, and beyond, while shining a spotlight on talents from Africa and the global Black diaspora.
This latest accolade arrives as Guillaume continues to expand her artistic horizons. Known for her powerful voice and engaging stage presence, she has built a career that transcends traditional compas boundaries. Her music resonates with audiences in Haiti, the United States, Canada, France, and various Caribbean territories. She frequently delivers high-energy live performances, forges international collaborations, and takes her artistry to global stages.
Guillaume recently released her highly anticipated project “12 Era,” and fans can look forward to a major live celebration with her “12 Era Concert” scheduled for October 11, 2026, at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston. This event promises to be one of the highlights of her touring calendar.
In a statement following the win, the artist expressed deep gratitude to her team, musicians, family, and loyal supporters. She emphasized that the honor belongs to everyone who has believed in her music throughout her journey and dedicated the award to Haiti itself.
This recognition further solidifies Rutshelle Guillaume’s position as a leading ambassador for Haitian music on the international stage. With a growing catalog of hits, consistent live performances, and previous accolades such as Best Caribbean Artist at the Trace Awards, her trajectory continues to rise well beyond national borders. As she accepts this honor, Guillaume not only celebrates personal achievement but also elevates Haitian culture and creativity to a worldwide audience.
