Emilie Lafortune’s Journey From La Gonâve to Quebec’s Dragon’s Den

Emilie Lafortune’s story is one of quiet determination and bold ambition. The Haitian-born entrepreneur, now based in Quebec, has turned her deep love for Caribbean flavors into a growing business called Le Goût de Ça. Her recent appearance on the popular business show Dans l’œil du dragon, which aired on May 27, 2026 on ICI Radio-Canada Télé, marks a significant milestone in her journey.

Like many immigrants, Emilie arrived in Canada with big dreams but no clear roadmap. What began in a small kitchen has evolved into a brand that proudly carries the vibrant tastes of Haiti and the Caribbean. Before the cameras, the social media buzz, and the product shelves, there were years of hard work, financial uncertainty, and long days balancing multiple roles. She has openly shared that the road was far from easy, filled with doubt and sacrifice, but also with an unshakable belief in what she was building.

Emilie’s connection to food started early in La Gonâve, Haiti. Raised largely by her older siblings, she learned to cook out of necessity and quickly developed a real passion for it. After moving to Argentina at 18, she spent nearly a decade working in restaurants, refining her skills and deepening her appreciation for bold, soulful cuisine. In 2021, she settled in Montreal with her partner and began sharing recipe videos online. The warm, genuine response from viewers encouraged her to go further.

What started as a personal passion project soon became Le Goût de Ça. The name, which translates roughly to “That’s the Taste,” comes from the enthusiastic reactions her dishes received. Today, the brand offers a range of marinades, hot sauces, and seasonings that bring authentic Caribbean heat and flavor into everyday cooking. Products like her Ti Manman hot sauce, made with Scotch bonnet peppers and traditional spices, have found a loyal following. She has also released a cookbook, Le goût des Caraïbes, featuring 75 approachable recipes that celebrate sunny, flavorful cooking.

The business is very much a couple’s endeavor. Together with her partner, Emilie built it from limited resources and a lot of heart. Their decision to pitch on Dans l’œil du dragon was about more than seeking investment. It was about showing that immigrants can succeed while staying true to their identity and culture. Their story resonates strongly with many young entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds who are trying to carve their own path in Quebec and Canada.

Emilie’s presence on one of Quebec’s most-watched business programs carries powerful symbolic weight. It highlights resilience, cultural pride, and the often invisible challenges faced by immigrant entrepreneurs. Yet she remains deeply grounded. In her emotional posts, she constantly thanks the community, the people who bought her first products, shared her videos, and believed in her vision from the very beginning.

Her appearance on the show is not the finish line but another chapter in an ongoing story. With authenticity, flavor, and perseverance at its core, Le Goût de Ça continues to grow, proving that passion and hard work can transform humble beginnings into something meaningful and lasting.
