GRAMMY Award-Winning Artist Wyclef Jean Kicks Off His Quantum Leap Era With “Mr. October” Featuring G Herbo

Wyclef Jean has released “Mr. October,” a new track featuring G Herbo that serves as the lead single from his upcoming album Clef Notes. The song marks the start of a larger undertaking called Quantum Leap, in which the artist plans to release seven albums over seven years, each centered on a different musical genre that has shaped his work.

“Mr. October” opens with a warm guitar line before settling into a reflective hip-hop groove. Wyclef looks back on his early days after arriving in the United States from Haiti, describing how language and rap became tools for survival rather than mere pastimes. G Herbo joins on the verses, bringing a sharper, contemporary edge that connects different eras of the genre. The collaboration feels natural, two voices from distinct generations talking about resilience and forward movement without forcing the point.

Clef Notes will be the first volume in the Quantum Leap series. From there, Wyclef intends to move through jazz, country, reggae, R&B, gospel, and various global sounds, including Haitian kompa and rara. Each album will contain seven tracks. The project is not positioned as a grand reinvention but as a methodical return to the breadth of influences he has drawn on for more than thirty years.

That range has defined his career since the Fugees’ The Score landed in the mid-1990s. The group’s breakthrough coincided with Wyclef’s solo debut The Carnival, an album that mixed hip-hop with Caribbean rhythms, Latin elements, and folk textures at a time when such blends were far less common. Subsequent work as a producer and writer brought him credits on records by Shakira, Santana, Whitney Houston, and others. He has never stayed in one lane for long, and Quantum Leap appears to formalize that approach for the next chapter.

Wyclef has spoken about G Herbo as a voice that represents a generation navigating difficult circumstances. In turn, Herbo has described the session as a chance to sharpen his craft, noting that working with someone he calls “Unk” raised the bar for lyricism and delivery. Their joint appearance on the track, along with Herbo’s recent sampling of Wyclef’s earlier song “911,” suggests an ongoing mutual respect rather than a one-off pairing.

Beyond the music, Wyclef continues to move between roles. He has been involved in music technology projects, including work with Google DeepMind on AI applications and positions at companies focused on cultural and financial intersections. Philanthropic efforts, particularly those tied to Haiti, remain consistent. Earlier this year he reunited with Lauryn Hill for several high-profile performances, adding another layer to the sense of continuity in his story.

“Mr. October” is available now on streaming platforms. If Quantum Leap unfolds as planned, it will offer a measured look at an artist who has spent decades crossing borders, both geographic and stylistic, without much fanfare. The first step feels grounded, focused more on craft and memory than on spectacle.
