Bayern Munich Knock Out Real Madrid in Thrilling Champions League Quarter-Final Epic

Munich, April 16, 2026 – Bayern Munich produced a dramatic late show to eliminate 15-time European champions Real Madrid from the UEFA Champions League, winning 4-3 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate in a goal-laden quarter-final second leg at the Allianz Arena.

After securing a 2-1 victory in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu, Bayern entered the return fixture with a narrow advantage. What followed was one of the most entertaining ties of the season, featuring seven goals, a red card, and two decisive strikes in the final moments.

Real Madrid started explosively. Young Turkish talent Arda Güler opened the scoring within the first minute after a rare error from veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The visitors looked sharp and took the lead on the night on multiple occasions, with Güler netting twice in total.

However, Bayern responded clinically. Aleksandar Pavlović equalized early with a composed finish in the 6th minute, and Harry Kane—continuing his superb form—added another goal before half-time to keep the German side firmly in control of the tie.

The second half turned chaotic. Real Madrid pushed hard for the goals they needed, but the momentum shifted decisively when midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was sent off, leaving the visitors with 10 men. Real Madrid protested the decision vehemently, with coach Álvaro Arbeloa and players like Jude Bellingham later calling it harsh or even “a joke.”

Despite being a man down, Real continued to threaten. Yet Bayern’s resilience shone through. In the 89th minute, Luis Díaz struck a crucial goal to level the score on the night at 3-3 (making it 5-4 on aggregate). Then, deep into stoppage time, Michael Olise curled in a beautiful fourth goal to seal the victory and send the Allianz Arena into delirium.

The final scoreline read Bayern Munich 4-3 Real Madrid, with Bayern progressing 6-4 on aggregate. It marks the second time Bayern have beaten Real Madrid in both legs of a Champions League knockout tie.

For Real Madrid, the night caps a disappointing European campaign. Under interim or transitional management (with reports pointing to Álvaro Arbeloa in the dugout), Los Blancos showed flashes of their legendary fighting spirit but ultimately fell short against a well-organized and clinical Bayern side.

Harry Kane, who now has an impressive tally this season (including his 50th goal in some reports), described the evening as “special.” Bayern manager Vincent Kompany will be delighted with his team’s character, having advanced to the semi-finals where they will face holders Paris Saint-Germain.

Real Madrid’s elimination leaves their season hanging by a thread, with domestic challenges also mounting. For Bayern, the dream of a first Champions League title since 2020 remains alive.
