Southeast Haiti: Armed Attack in Seguin Leaves Several Dead, Police Station Set on Fire

Heavily armed men launched a violent assault on the locality of Seguin during the night, according to local witnesses.

The community of Seguin, located in the commune of Marigot in Haiti’s Southeast department, came under heavy fire in an armed attack that occurred overnight from Monday, April 13, to Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

According to information gathered from residents and local sources, a group of heavily armed individuals—reportedly coming from neighboring areas—stormed into the locality, spreading terror among the population.

Multiple people were reportedly killed during the offensive. Eyewitness accounts describe scenes of extreme brutality, with some victims shot and their bodies then set on fire.

The attackers also targeted public infrastructure. The Seguin police station was completely burned down, along with two vehicles belonging to the Haitian National Police.

No official casualty toll had been released at the time of writing. Haitian authorities have not yet issued any statement regarding the incident or announced measures to restore security in the area, where tension remains high.

The attack adds to the persistent climate of insecurity affecting several regions of Haiti, with armed groups continuing to carry out raids on vulnerable communities.
